Kazakhstan, whose population was then more than 6 million people, sent to the front about 20% of its citizens, every second of whom died.

"The Kazakhs showed heroism on all fronts of the war, valiantly and selflessly fighting with a cruel enemy. The names of Bauyrzhan Momyshuly, Talgat Bigeldinov, Aliya Moldagulova, Manshuk Mametova, Sergei Lugansky, Leonid Bedi, Nurken Abdirov and thousands and thousands of Kazakhs are written in gold letters in the history of the great exploits of that war. Our duty is to do everything to save peace and harmony in Independent Kazakhstan, to keep the cloudless sky over the heads of future generations," Almaty Mayor noted.

During the speech Bauyrzhan Baibek reminded that out of 1 million 200 thousand Kazakhs who went to the front, more than 160 thousand were Almaty residents. According to him, young people should remember the great feat of veterans; know about the contribution of Kazakhstan and our native land to the common victory.

"Thanks to the politics of President, our people live in peace and harmony, all the years of Independence. Kazakhs of different nationalities, religions live together, work, raise children, and confidently look to the future. As the Head of State said, "When they talk about Kazakhstan, they respect our Kazakhstan people. Because the world is coming from us". Young people should remember the great feat of veterans, know about the contribution of Kazakhstan and our native land to the common victory, the names of the heroes-Kazakhstanis and Almaty residents. This is part of our history, which we are proud of. Such examples of patriotism unite, make us a strong, great united Nation" B. Baibek stressed.
