ALEXANDER BARON VISITED COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS AT BABI YAR

September 29, 2016 Ukraine and the whole world commemorated the tragedy of universal scale. 75 years ago, two days - 29-30 September 1941 - in Babi Yar fascist invaders shot about 34 thousand men, women, children, old people ... It was a massive campaign of destruction of Jews in Kiev. On the territory of modern Ukraine during World War II, according to various estimates of historians, not less than one and a half million Jews were killed.

In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the tragedy in Babi Yar in Kiev held events, meetings, placing flowers, signed documents, the purpose of which - to consolidate in the history of what happened and prevent future.

At the invitation of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the World Jewish Congress, the Eurasian Jewish Congress delegation arrived in Kiev on Jewish communities and organizations around the world. Kazakhstan was represented by the head of the Jewish community in the Republic, the Chairman of the Board of "Mitzvah" Association, member of the Presidium of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress and the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan Alexander Baron.

The official commemoration of the victims, innocent people killed, took place on Thursday, 29 September, after which took place the official reception and concert Memory. With the participation of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the official ceremony was held on the site of the shootings in Babi Yar.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has initiated the creation of the first victims of the Holocaust Memorial Center "Babi Yar", which will be built in Kiev on the site of mass destruction by the Nazis of Jews, Ukrainians, Gypsies and other nationalities. Declaration on the establishment of the center was signed by the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko in Kiev.

Days before, 26 September, the leaders of the Vaad of Ukraine opened in Kiev the exhibition "Babi Yar: history and fate."

During the mourning ceremony in the National Historical Memorial "Babiy Yar" Kiev citizens came with flowers. In the alley at Babi Yar was opened an exhibition of German photographer Luigi Toscano "Against Oblivion", dedicated to those who managed to survive, to escape the Holocaust. With volume, full height, canvases watching people - their faces, eyes express the pain, fear, and triumph of victory over the terrible evil - Nazism, fascism. Closer to the Menor installed exhibition of copies of archival documents, decrees and orders of the Nazi occupation authorities in Kiev - is evidence of violence in the city in autumn 1941.
