Cultural cooperation: Plays by Turkic-speaking Authors Staged at Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Theatres

BAKU - As part of working visit to Azerbaijan on February 1, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (APK) - Head of APK’s Secretariat of Executive Office of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting with Gunay Efendiyeva, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.

Opening the meeting, Tuimebayev noted the high level of Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan relations.

"Over the years of independence, Kazakhstan has managed to preserve inter-ethnic harmony, strengthen the unity of the people and create conditions for the development of languages, culture and traditions of Kazakh ethnic groups," Tuimebayev said.


Also he told about the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev, First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on creation of the Science Centre with the purpose of research of the Turkic world, reported on October 3, 2009, on IX Summit of the heads of the Turkic-speaking states in the city of Nakhchivan, Republic of Azerbaijan.

"On 25 May 2010, the Turkic Academy was opened in the city of Nur-Sultan in the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, which also hosts international and national events aimed at strengthening interethnic and interfaith harmony, such as the annual sessions of the Assembly of nPeople of Kazakhstan, congresses of world and traditional religions, and others" said Tuimebayev.


As it is known, the International Turkic Academy has 5 research centers. These are Center of History and Ethnology; the Center of language, literature and terminology; the Сenter of Art and Culture; the Center of Social and Economic Research, as well as a Center for International Research. All of them are aimed at studying various problems of the Turkic world, culture, history, economy and integration.


The International Turkic Academy employs scientists from the founding countries and the Turkic world. The Academy has implemented many international projects concerning the Turkic world. Thanks to this, about 50 scientific books have been published, which touch upon the themes of modern Turkicology, Turkic history, culture and art of the future Turkic people.

At the same time, the Academy publishes the journal "Altaistics and Turkology", which investigates the main problems of Turkology and Altaistics from the scientific point of view, as well as the information-analytical journal "GLOBAL-Tzgk". Scientific and analytical articles are published in four languages (Kazakh, Russian, English, Turkish). Besides, Turkic-language dictionaries have been published.


A Turkic library has been established at the International Turkic Academy. The fund of the library is more than

32,000 printed publications, based on personal libraries of famous Turkologists as well as the library itself. The personal book collection of famous Turkic scholars, such as Ishtvan Mandoki Konyr, Abduali Kaidar and Abzhan Kuryshzhanuly, was given to the Academy library.


The library also has a rare collection of books and copies of manuscripts. The library has separate bookshelves dedicated to Turkic peoples. Currently, the electronic base of the Turkic library is being prepared.

In the museum, opened at the International Turkic Academy, you can see valuable relics of the Turkic people belonging to different periods. The work on collection of tangible and photodocumentary materials of the cultural heritage of the Turkic people continues. In September 2014, the museum was completely renovated with relics.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on close cooperation in the framework of the jubilee events - the 175th anniversary of Abai Kunanbaev and the 1150th anniversary of al-Farabi, as well as on staging plays based on the works of Turkic authors on the stage of ethnic theaters of Kazakhstan.

On the same day, Tuimebayev visited Baku State University, where he learned about the work of the Abai Kunanbayev Kazakh Centre.
