On August 24, the winners of the annual literary relay in social networks “Abai readings” were awarded in the Library of the First President of Kazakhstan. The event is dedicated to the birthday of the great Kazakh poet Abay Kunanbayev.

As noted by Deputy Director of the Library of Elbassy Botagoz Kaiypova, poetic skills, ability to get across beautifully poet’s works to the reader were mentioned as well as high level of creativity shown by the participants. Moreover, some nominees showed their deep knowledge in the study of Abay’s heritage. They presented reports on the first Kazakh classic author and research projects about Abai on the pages of social networks of the Library.

According to B. Muttakhidenovna, this year Working Committee has moved away from the traditional practice of determining the winners of the places, and the following nominations were appeared: “The youngest participant of the competition”, “The first to respond to the competition”. All of them showed a certain creativity in the interpretation of great Abay’s work.

According to the results of the competition I and III places were won by students of Taraz State University, the second place was taken by students of school-gymnasium No. 81 of Almaty Aktoty Assanova.

This year geography of the competition is extensive – participants were both from the regions of Kazakhstan and Poland. Thus, Gulnaz Kaliyeva, a first-year student of the University of Information technologies and Management of Rzeszow was awarded in the nomination “Promoting the heritage of Abay at the world level”. The participant notes that the rich spiritual heritage of the great thinker is part of the treasury of world culture. His works are firmly included in the galaxy of world values.

— Abay's wisdom is a powerful spiritual support, which does not lose its luster to this day. After all, he said that the salvation of the nation is only in its spiritual revival. The great poet praised such qualities as intelligence, morality, justice and mercy –  says Gulnaz.

We decided to talk in details with Gulnaz, who studies in one of the best universities in the world. She willingly told about her life in Poland, study and relationships with peers from other countries.

Gulnaz is 18 years old. Gulnaz entered the faculty of International Management at Rzeszow University of Information Technology and Management this year, before that she took a course of study on the specialized program “Foundation” (a program for foreign students to prepare for admission to higher education institutions – ed.note).

– Why did you choose this University, what attracted your attention?

– I wanted to enter University abroad, to see what is life outside of Kazakhstan. To learn more about other countries. Since childhood, I love to learn new things. Finally, the day came when I had to choose where to go and where I wanted to study. Before choosing a specific University, I read reviews about them, and it was the University in Rzeszow that caught my attention. It is one of the leaders among Polish non-state universities. Later, I learned that UITM is the only private University that has received a special gold certificate, as well as a special award – “The highest quality of education”. Then I just decided to study here.

­– Was it difficult to stay in Poland at first time?

– There are a lot of Kazakhs, so it was not difficult to get used to. We communicated with the rest in English and Polish. People of Rzeszow, especially adults, do not know English, so I had to explain in Polish somehow. I learn local language in parallel.

– How many students study with you and from what countries?

– There are a lot of students, so they were divided into several groups. We studied with students from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. I think we were united because our language is more similar.

– What about friends from other countries besides classmates? What is your relationship with them?

–I have friends from other countries: Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Turkey. Relations with them are very friendly. We spend a lot of time together. We invite each other to visit.

– Gulnaz, which cities have you already visited during study? What did attract your attention? What are the features of life of the local people you can mention?

– Now, I have been to Warsaw and Rzeszow only. But, I hope soon to catch up all gaps. It's very quiet here. People are kind and friendly. Most of the locals, as I noted, do not know English, speak only in their native language.

– What do you think Polish people and Kazakhs have in common?

– Both people are benevolent, friendly, kind, calm.

– What is important in the relationship of students from different countries, different nationalities?

- The main thing is to respect each other, to listen to the opinion of others. It is equally important to know their culture, how they communicate, what they listen to, eat and so on.

During the conversation Gulnaz told about the local cuisine.

– The same potatoes, the same stuffed cabbage that we eat in Kazakhstan, the only thing – the taste is a little different, – Gulnaz says. – Students cook mostly themselves and rarely have snack on the street. They cook familiar food like kespe (soup), pilaf and the other.

–I want to speak English perfectly. My dream is to travel around the world. My plans are to work by profession in Kazakhstan, that is, to learn everything in Poland and return to the country with a wealth of knowledge to contribute to the economy. I wish our Republic to develop and prosper more and more – Gulnaz concluded.
