On 24 September 1934, State Academic Uigur Theatre of Musical Comedy was founded.

The primary name is Uighur regional drama theatre of music. In 1941-1961, it was in Enbekshikazakh district and later it was relocated to Almaty. In 1964, it was renamed into Republican Uigur musical drama theatre.

“It is comfortable to live, study, work, raise children for all our citizens in Kazakhstan. Peace and harmony, stability – our golden legacy and the main treasure of all 25 years of Independence. The state constantly and widely supports all ethno-cultural associations. It finances schools for children, our newspapers and magazines are published in 15 languages, theaters in 7 languages. It is reality in Kazakhstan, while it is not in other countries. Today at this festival I announce my decision to assign the status of academic theaters of the country to three national theaters: Korean, German and Uigur”, — Nursultan Nazarbayev said during the festival of ethno-cultural associations of the Assembly of people of Kazakhstan “25 years of peace and consent” on 9 December 2016.

 “I am convinced that this will open a new stage in the development of the entire theatrical art of our country. I congratulate teams on this wonderful event. I wish you great creative success”, — President said.

All three theatres are in Almaty.

The state Republican Korean theater of musical comedy was founded in the Far East in 1931, later it was relocated to Kyzylorda, then to Almaty.

The Republican German drama theatre was founded in Almaty in 1975. In 2007, the theater building was closed for reconstruction and since that time the German theater is the only state theater in Kazakhstan, which does not have a permanent building and constantly changes the stages of performances.
