APK AND COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN HAVE AGREED ON COOPERATION

Memorandum on cooperation in the field of human rights protection and public consent between the Assembly of people of Kazakhstan and Commissioner for human rights in Kazakhstan was signed.

The document was signed today in Astana during the meeting of Deputy Chairman of APK Leonid Prokopenko with Commissioner for human rights in Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov.

Within the framework of the Memorandum, the parties plan to cooperate in the development of mediation, as well as to exchange experience in the promotion and protection of human rights, strengthening of social harmony and national unity.

According to Deputy head of APK, Kazakhstan has made significant efforts to preserve stability and inter-ethnic harmony since gaining independence. Kazakhstan's model of national unity is highly appreciated by the international community.

Askar Shakirov said in turn that the annual analysis of citizens' appeals shows that there is no discrimination on ethnic grounds in Kazakhstan, except some cases. However, National centre for human rights plans to continue monitoring in this area. For this purpose, a special dialogue platform has already been organized on topical issues of ensuring the rights of citizens representing different ethnic groups. It also includes representatives of government agencies, non-governmental organizations, ethno-cultural associations and various research institutes.

In addition, within the framework of the signed memorandum, it is planned to involve young people in the activities of patriotic orientation, inter-ethnic and intercultural dialogue, as well as the organization of activities aimed at creating a sense of civic community.
