Assembly Members Meet Representatives of National Communities of Azerbaijan in Baku

BAKU - Within the framework of the working visit to Azerbaijan on January 31, the Kazakh delegation headed by Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (APK) - Head of APK’s Secretariat of Executive Office of the President RK, held a meeting with representatives of national communities of Azerbaijan.


Opening the meeting Zhanseit Tuimebayev expressed hope that "the meeting will bring development of relations between our countries in the field of strengthening inter-ethnic relations to a new stage".

Tuimebayev briefly told the history of Assembly’s establishment as a public institute of inter-ethnic consent.

Deputy Chairman emphasized that Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are united by historical ties of friendship and brotherhood.


"About 110 thousand ethnic Azerbaijanis who are active participants of formation of our state live in Kazakhstan.

One third of the Azerbaijanis live in Turkestan region (32.6 per cent). A significant part of them live in Almaty and Zhambyl regions, cities of Almaty and Shymkent. A total of 72.2% of the Azerbaijanis of Kazakhstan live in the five regions mentioned above".

Representatives of the ethnicity participate in the implementation of annual State of the Nation Address of the President, session resolutions of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, in events dedicated to the Day of Gratitude, the holiday "Nauryz", Kazakhstan People Unity Day.

The Azerbaijanis of Kazakhstan are united by "Turan" Congress of Azerbaijanis. The Republican Ethnocultural Center is represented by the Republican Public Association "Association of Azerbaijanis" headed by A. Khamedov, which has been functioning since 2007.


Zhanseit Tuimebayev informed that Azerbaijanis are 10th in number of Kazakhstanis and have positive dynamics of growth developed mainly due to preservation of traditions of many children among villagers.

"Azerbaijani language is taught in Sunday Azerbaijani ethnolinguistic schools. There are a total of 7 of them and only 13 groups in the Republic, functioning in the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Aktobe, Karaganda, Mangistau, Pavlodar and North Kazakhstan regions."

Concluding speech, Zhanseit Tuimebayev expressed readiness "to continue cooperation and provide all necessary conditions for the development of culture, language, traditions of the Azerbaijani ethnic group, active involvement of Azerbaijanis in all spheres of public and cultural life of the republic.

Tomorrow, February 1, the Kazakh delegation is expected to meet with Gunay Efendiyeva, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Elchin Babayev, Rector of Baku State University.

Then our delegation will get acquainted with Abai Kunanbayev Kazakh Center, Heydar Aliyev Center, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and the historical part of Baku.
