Day of Remembrance

The history of each people is full of events and memorable dates. Unfortunately, many of them are sad. For the German people, the black date in history was August 28, 1941 - the day of publication of the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On the resettlement of Germans living in the Volga region". This decree affected not only the Volga Germans, but also those who lived in the Crimea, Ukraine and the Caucasus. In this decree the Germans were accused of aiding and abetting Nazi Germany.

Deportation is the forced expulsion of a person or an entire people outside the state. Such a fate befell the German people. The reason for this was, according to the interpretation of the Soviet Government, the prevention of political crimes. So, only in the first three weeks of deportation from the Volga region 438.7 thousand people were evicted. Men aged 16-60 years were mobilized in construction battalions, whole families were left without a man's shoulder and maternal caresses, the number of orphaned German children became extremely large. These were terrible years for all Germans. There is not a single indifferent person now living in this tragedy. North-Kazakhstan regional German cultural center "Wiedergeburt" annually, on August 28, organizes Memorial Day. On this day, the participants of the event remember their fathers and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers, who had to endure terrible events. Gathered together, they "leaf through" pages of history, mourning, paying tribute to the courage and tolerance of their ancestors.

The event began with a memorial service in the Roman Catholic parish of the "Sacred Heart of Jesus", laying flowers on the monument to "Victims of the totalitarian regime", which is located near the Temple and a minute of silence. So the members of the German cultural center honored the memory of their ancestors. For as long as we remember, we pass on our knowledge and feelings to the younger generation, the memory of the trials that fell to the lot of the German ethnos will not fade.

After the ceremony of laying flowers all went to the regional museum of local lore, where an exhibition dedicated to deportation was organized. This is a large hall in which a whole history of the deportation of peoples is depicted, the mutilated fates and lives of thousands of people are shown. Irina Gorbatsevich told about the terrible page of the history of the German people, which touched her family.

At the meeting, Elvira Kovzel (President of the Public Association "North Kazakhstan Regional German Cultural Center" Wiedergeburt "):" It's been 76 years since one of the terrible tragedies in the history of our people, the fate of which for many years has been associated with the trials of deportation, mobilization in the labor army , the separation of families, famine, the post-war commandant's office and other hardships due to belonging to German nationality. Annually, on August 28 we gather together to honor the bright memory of these innocent people. We remember and keep in our hearts love and gratitude to our ancestors, we pass on to future generations the pain of those events when our people have unjustly suffered "

At the end of the meeting, a tea party was organized for all those present, where people could chat and share their impressions of the stories and tragic destinies of the German people in an informal atmosphere over a cup of tea.

This event is held annually by the NGO "SKONKTS" Wiedergeburt "in order to honor the memory of the repressed, expressing feelings of grief and deep loss, attracting the population to study the history of their native land, the German ethnos, as well as the upbringing of patriotism and spiritual and moral ideals in the younger generation.
