I International model of UN Central Asia is held in Astana

200 young delegates from 10 countries took part in the I International model of the UN in Central Asia, dedicated to the International day of Peace. Model of the United Nations of Central Asia is an international dialogue platform, where the biggest ideas of the UN are discussed.

The opening session of the conference “Kazakhstan and the United Nations: 25 years of partnership and successful cooperation – Peace initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the name of global peace, stability and sustainable development” was held in Nazarbayev centre. The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates and observers from Azerbaijan, India, Germany, Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and others.

“The project initiated by the Library of the President in 2016 has received strong support among the students of the Central Asian region. We have held six conferences, each aimed at further improving of the UN model. During these meetings, the idea of forming a single hub of UN models in Central Asia was formed. The first International Model UN in Central Asia aims to combine teams, movements in regional scale as the cumulative product of the international platform of the UN model. Today, experts and participants of this movement from Kazakhstan will discuss key global issues related to the development of a common position, strategy and participation of Central Asian teams in United Nations programmes and projects. It is no coincidence that our theme is devoted to the problems of global anti-nuclear disarmament, because it is the Head of state who came up with an initiative that has received worldwide support”, — said Deputy Director of the Museum of the First President Botagoz Kaipova.

“I support the idea of the UN. Kazakhstan has a big responsibility, being the leader of Central Asia. It has to show the example to other countries. People have chance to get here and develop diplomatic relations with each other. These young people are going to be the future of the country”, — said Roy Dilawer Khan, Assistant Director of Lahore Development Authority.

Resolutions are adopted as a result of the activities of participants which are subsequently sent for consideration to the Relevant UN Agency.
