On 2 September, Kazakh national team returned from Jakarta, where the XVIII Summer Asian Games were held. During two weeks, our compatriots (475 people) competed in 57 sports with athletes from 46 countries of the Asian continent.

In total, athletes of Kazakhstan won 76 medals in 10 sports, including 15 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 44 bronze medals in 11 sports at the XVIII Summer Asian Games in Jakarta (Indonesia). Our athletes have won two gold medals in 4 kinds of sports – mountain-bike, jiu-jitsu, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing and сanoeing.

As the Minister of Сulture and Sports Arystanbek Muhamediuly said at a press conference for media representatives “after the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the membership of the national teams of Kazakhstan has been updated for almost 70 percent by including young promising athletes in order to ensure successful performance at Summer Olympic Games in 2020 in Tokyo”.

“We should especially note the successful performance of athletes in fencing, cycling on the highway, rhythmic gymnastics, karate-do, jiu-jitsu, water polo, where gold medals were won”, — Minister emphasized.

When there was a question about the membership of Kazakh national team, the Ministry said that there were representatives of more than 10 nationalities, including Russians, Uzbeks, Tatars, Moldovans, Chechens and others among sportsmen.
