September 19, 2017 in the Kazakh Kazakh Drama Theater of the city of Taraz hosted the Republican Day of Culture of the Greek ethnos. The event was organized by the Zhambyl regional society of the Greeks with the support of the regional assembly of the people of Kazakhstan. Day of culture was visited by the guest of honor - Greek Ambassador to Kazakhstan Alexandros Katranis. He came to Taraz with a work train and got acquainted with a number of objects of the ancient city. Among them are the monuments "Kazak handigi" and "Tauelsіz Kazakstan", the sports complex "Taraz Arena", the multi-apartment complex "Aray", the monument to Zhambyl Zhabaev, the historical and cultural center "Ancient Taraz" and the House of Friendship. It should be noted that the Ambassador was met and accompanied by the deputy akim of the region Erkanat Manzhuov, the deputy akim of the city Kenzhebek Olzhabay, the head of the KGU "Kogamdik kelisim" Rano Ubaidullaeva and the chairman of the Society of Greeks of the Zhambyl region Georgy Buyukidi.

Conducting a culture day of the republican scale every two years has already become a good tradition of the Society of Greeks of Zhambyl region. At the event, 60 representatives of the Greek ethnos from all over the country were invited, including talented artists from Almaty, Almaty, South Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Karaganda, Aktobe and Zhambyl regions. And also at the festive event dedicated to the popularization of the culture of the Greek ethnos with his patriotic songs, the People's Artist of Kazakhstan Laki Kesoglu performed.

In general, there are more than 7000 ethnic Greeks living in Kazakhstan, about 2000 of them live in the Zhambyl region. The ethnocultural association "The Society of Greeks of Zhambyl Region" was established in 1989, in the first five of the national and cultural centers of the region, even before the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan was created. Ever since, representatives of the Greek ethnos have been contributing to the development and prosperity of our region. Thanks to the wise state national policy of the Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev, they have free access to all levels of education, to all spheres of the country's socio-economic and cultural life.

Today, the Zhambyl regional society of the Greeks, headed by Georg Buiucidi, are working to deepen interethnic relations, strengthen civil peace and harmony in the region. Everything from small to large: children, youth and adults learn Kazakh, Russian, English and Greek. There are dance studio and dance ensemble "Astary" (head Elena Malhosyan), ensemble of Greek music in Karatau.
