September 5, 2016 in Atyrau were honored champions and winners of the Olympic Games in Rio, weightlifter Nijat Rahimov and taekwondo fighter Zhansel Deniz. The event was held in the sports complex "Zhaiyk" in Dosmukhamedov Atyrau State University. Hundreds of citizens warmly welcomed the Olympians. The celebration was attended by sportsmen, young people and fans with banners, flags and balloons together with Azerbayzhani community and members of ethnocultural association of Atyrau region – "Navruz".

Atyrau athletes from the scene congratulated akim of Atyrau region Nogayev, who said that the Olympians are our pride.

- With a great interest we watched the performance of Kazakhstan and were proud when our flag was raised and the national anthem sounded, - said akim. Nijat Rahimov met our expectations and proved to the world that Kazakhstan weightlifters are among the best on the planet. I believe that this success will give an impetus to the development of physical culture and sport in our region".

N.Rahimov in turn thanked the citizens for the support provided at the Olympics in Rio.

- I felt the support of the people of Kazakhstan. Even in spite of the long distance, I felt it. I knew that the whole country stands for me and it helped. Thank you all. I have an honor to serve under our blue flag and raise it on the Olympics. I am very happy, "- said Rakhimov.

Olympic champion received from the hands of Atyrau region akim Nogaev a certificate for a two-bedroom apartment in the city of Astana, Zhansel Deniz received a certificate for two million tenge.
