Ethnic bands from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia and India performed on the stage.
International ethno-folk-jazz festival dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Astana was held at Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory in Almaty.
The festival held under the auspices of the Assembly of people of Kazakhstan, has become a unique platform for young and talented creative teams and performers of ethno-folk music of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries.
The festival is held in Almaty for the first time. It was established in 2015 in Astana on the initiative of the Assembly of people of Kazakhstan.
“The festival is held for the third time. Jazz and ethno-folk groups of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Russia participate there too. This year musicians from India take part as well. The main aim of our festival is the preservation of the national code of culture of Kazakhstan and other ethnic groups living on the territory of our country”, — said Khadisha Yersseitova, Deputy Director of “Kogamdyk kelisim” MSI under the President RK.
According to the organizers, the aim of the festival is to popularize the ethno-folk musical direction among young people as one of the modern musical styles. This genre is a great opportunity for creative experiments with ethnic motives.
“The peculiarity of this festival is that we hold it in the walls of our conservatory named after Kurmangazy – the leading music university of Kazakhstan. The bulk of the audience — our future musicians and faculty and representatives of ethno-cultural associations of Kazakhstan”, — said Khadisha Yersseitova.
The owner of the unique voice, honored worker of Kazakhstan Yedil Khussainov had the honor to open the concert. He's one of the few musicians who knows the art of playing the ancient Kazakh musical instruments the zhetygen, the sybyzgy, the sazsyrnai, the kamys syrnay and shankobyz.
“There should be more festivals. It has great cultural importance and educates our youth. When all genres are united in one concert, everyone learns from each other. The most important thing is the Kazakh music, which unites all. Our young people, the audience perceives our music well. Wherever I perform: in Germany, Japan or America, Kazakh concerts and Kazakh music are always well received by the public and they discover another world that they did not know before”, — says Yedil Khussainov.
There were jazz quartet “Gorod Solntse” from Tashkent, instrumental and jazz group “Aura” from Bishkek, Jonny Gazz from India, Tarlans from Karaganda and others among participants.
Quartet Tarlans took participation in a large-scale festival for the first time. The band was founded only a year ago, but has already found its audience, the musicians said.
“We are very grateful to the organizers who invited us to the festival. Our team exists for about a year in Karaganda. We are a little behind Almaty in ethno-genre, so we have created a group to promote this trend in music. In our hometown, it is not so popular, but still there are connoisseurs of creativity who like this music”, — says one of the members of the band Balkhan Smagulov.
It should be noted that within the framework of the festival in the hall of the University there was a fair of unique handmade goods “Ata oneri - urpakka mura”, which was visited by the Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of people of Kazakhstan – Head of Secretariat of the APK Leonid Prokopenko, members of the APK, representatives of the creative intelligentsia, national and regional ethno-cultural associations.
