Kazakhstan and Korea: The Roots of Friendship Run Deep

NUR-SULTAN – Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Deputy Chairman - Head of Assembly of People of Kazakhstan’s Secretariat met with Mr. Kim Daesik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea at the National Academic Library.

During the meeting the guests were presented with Kazakhstani model of interethnic and public accord. Zhanseit Tuimebayev informed about the history, constitutional status, tasks and ongoing work of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan aimed at consolidating peace and unity in the country.

"The Republic of Korea is a country with a developed economy, a world leader in IT, biotechnology, and many other areas.

Kazakhstan has a favorable geographical location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, the country is rich in natural resources and is interested in attracting foreign business and investment. However, the most important wealth of our country is ethnocultural diversity, which has become our strategic advantage due to the risk factor. More than a hundred ethnic minorities live in Kazakhstan. All of them are Kazakhstan citizens. Korean ethnos takes a significant place there," Zhanseit Tuimebayev said.

"I would like to emphasize that Koreans living in our country became "a bridge of friendship" between our countries. We have managed to ensure unity and peace in society, equal rights of citizens and all ethnic minorities of Kazakhstan. This is the main secret of country’s investment attractiveness now.

Entrepreneurs Association works under the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan. We can cooperate in the most promising areas. The Association is planning to organize Business Forum and invite Korean representatives to take an active part in it," Deputy Chairman noted.

During the meeting, Head of Secretariat spoke about a significant contribution of Association of Koreans in Kazakhstan in the work of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.

"There are many talented professionals in various fields among Koreans. They owe their success and achievements both to inherent genetic character traits of character and atmosphere of mutual understanding, peace and friendship with Kazakhs and other people of multinational Kazakhstan.

I am glad that many people attend Korean Cultural Center in Nur-Sultan and Korean Education Center in Almaty, where they learn Korean language, history and culture with great interest," Zhanseit Tuimebayev said.

In turn, Mr. Kim Daesik noted the importance of relations between the two countries.

"I am proud to see the achievements of Korean people in Kazakhstan. The Government of the Republic of Korea expresses its gratitude to the Government of Kazakhstan for its comprehensive support to Koreans," said the Ambassador.

As Mr. Daesik noted, Kazakhstan citizens are actively interested in the culture and history of Korea, and Korean ethnos serves as a bridge between Kazakhstan and Korea, strengthening ties between the two countries.

"The Embassy of the Republic of Korea closely cooperates with the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan and undertake various events. As Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, I meet with representatives of Korean ethno-cultural associations in the House of Friendship during my trips to the regions of Kazakhstan.

Next week we are going to pay a working visit to Kokshetau, where Korean Cultural Center organizes an event. The Assembly of People of Kazakhstan provided support in the course of preparation.

I am sincerely glad to see the achievements of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan on its way to unite people in the country. Therefore, we invited the Russian and Tatar ensembles to the dinner in honor of National Foundation Day of Korea," said Mr. Ambassador.


The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Kazakhstan were established on January 28, 1992. In 1993, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea was opened in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The presidents of two countries are taking measures to strengthen political, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
