Addressing the participants of the celebrations, Head of State stressed that today's holiday brings together all Kazakhstanis, representatives of all ethnic minorities.

- Addressing the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, First President Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the exceptional importance of inter-ethnic accord. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Yelbasy, Kazakhstan has become home to many nationalities today," said Qassym-Jomart Toqayev.

As the President of Kazakhstan stressed, despite various negative forecasts about the future of our multi-ethnic, multi-confessional country, Yelbasy managed to preserve peace and accord in our common homeland.

Head of State drew attention to the special role of Almaty in the history of Kazakhstan and reminded that it was here that the independence of our state was proclaimed.

- Almaty has always been distinguished by a special aura. Almaty is a unique brand, an example of true internationalism. Nowadays the city is a business, financial, cultural, educational and tourist center of the country. Almaty is also a centre of attraction for small and medium-sized businesses, which creates jobs and generates revenues for the city budget," said Qassym-Jomart Toqayev.

The President dwelt on the issues of improving the welfare of people and the prospects of socio-economic development of Almaty.

- We will work together to address environmental and air quality, infrastructure and public safety issues. Our city should become a model in terms of comfort for its residents and foreign guests. The time has come to switch to environmentally friendly technologies for motor transport and energy supply," Head of state said.

President of Kazakhstan stressed that thanks to mutual respect, solidarity and creative work of representatives of all ethnic groups, we were able to strengthen our independence and achieve success in the economy.

- Today, every citizen of Kazakhstan, regardless of his or her ethnicity, feels part of a single large family. Unity and harmony are the values that our people have preserved even during the most difficult years of trials. "Unity in diversity" is the essence of our policy. Only together, with our hard work and perseverance will we be able to build a strong and prosperous state," said Qassym-Jomart Toqayev.

Head of State congratulated all those present on the holiday of Kazakhstan People’s Un ity and wished them happiness, prosperity and new success.

The solemn action has come to the end with a festive concert in which leading creative collectives of the ethno-cultural centers of Almaty and actors of the Kazakhstan variety took part.
