December 1, 2016 at 11.30 pm the hall of the international flights of airport of Almaty launched the research expedition to the Antarctica "Independence Pole", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The expedition is held under the auspices of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.

This expedition to the South pole is the second.

December 16 members of the expedition will set up the national flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the flag of the 25th anniversary of Independence of our country and the flag of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan on the highest point in Antarctica - the Vinson peak. During the expedition they will pass skiing more than 200 kilometers. The scientific expedition staff will conduct research in the field of ecology, biology, and the impact of extreme conditions of Antarctica on the human physiology.

The expedition included Magzhan Sagimbayev, expedition leader; climbers Ilyas Galimbekov and Yuri Yushin; scientists Alia Yernazarova, Arman Baymukhamedov and Daulet Sharipov.

The ceremonial start of the expedition, which took place at the airport of Almaty was opened and held by Kazbek Mamsurov, deputy chairman of the APK, Almaty.

With the welcoming speech Leonid Pitalenko, the deputy chairman of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan addressed.

Murat Auezov, a writer and social activist addressed the expedition participants with the parting words, gave Ak bata and presented Tumars - warding symbols. Also, the future conqueror of the South Pole of the earth received warm fur caps with earflaps from the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.

Wishing good luck and success from the republican youth association "Zharasym" Rustam Kayryev addressed.

Tolegen Tastanbekov, the chairman of the Public Association "Kazakh Geographic Society" wished the members of the expedition to carry out their mission and return home successfully.

On behalf of the "Independence Pole" expedition members Magzhan Sagimbayev thanked for the solemn organizing start of the expedition, and the good wishes and assured that the expedition members would make every effort to cope with the tasks, represent adequately Kazakhstan.

The organizers of the solemn start of the expedition were MPI "Kogamdyk kelіsіm" under the President of RK, Public Association "Kazakh Geographic Society". The general partner of the project was National Managing Holding "Baiterek", the partners were republican public association "Kazakh National Geographic Society", Nazarbayev University, Kazakh National University named after Al Farabi, Kazakh National University named D.Asfendiyarov.
