"Kurultai" in Kazakh means "congress". This special event has its roots far in the centuries. Representatives of different areas, clans, tribes gathered and discussed political and economic questions: to decide with whom to ally, and with whom to fight, chose the first leaders (khans), raise economic problems (like shared pastures). After an important meeting to move on to celebrations with feasts, contests and games.

Today, the Kurultay in the region is one of the main calendar holidays. Every year in Tyumen region Kurultai is widely held. In 2015, the festival was organized on Ishim area, the event was visited by nearly 4,000 people. This year, in honor of the 85th anniversary of the Kazan district (plus the area bordering Kazakhstan) Kurultay took place in Kazan.

Every year in Tyumen Kurultai is attended by representatives from Kazakhstan. The delegation was leaded by the head of the secretariat of Petropavlovsk North Kazakhstan Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan - Nail Salimov.

The event program was intense: national farmsteads, diverse cuisines, competitions, games, contests, and a concert program.
